Drivers Door Window Switch

Postby firedude7048 on Mon Jul 26, 2010 3:37 am

Im having problems with my drivers door window switch. bought a brand new one from local gm dealer ($80) and installed it didnt fix the problem, took it to a mechanic. He put this elctronic tool into the connector and the window went up and down with the tool he used. But when he stuck the old and new switch on and went to use the tool it would trip the tool out. he said that the express down module was bad, now here is my question what if i go to a junk yard to buy another switch and i cant get my window what do i have to use or do to jump the circiut?

Thanks
Jon

Well, the 'tool' he used may have just been to jump the 2 wires directly to the motor. I suspect either a Bad Switch right from new, Bad Connector, or Wiring Fault somewhere. Inspect the connector ends closely for corrosion ect.

What's the year/make/model ect and what Part Number did you get?

although not too common it's possible you got a failed Unit right from GM. Is it possible to get an exchange, telling the Dealer it was Tested and also did nothing? I know the Dealer I work at is very picky on Electrical Components, but we will still warranty a failed OTC purchase from us. I will look at work today to see if there is any Relay or Breaker used in the window circuit as well.

Don't just 'buy' one, as it's a little pricey but see if your local shop can test the Body Control Module? I believe windows are on that same circuit. Not positive, but it's worth a check. And they do need programming if you do get a new one.

BCM should be near the Park Brake foot lever under the dash drivers side. There is a mess of wiring under there with the ignition switch harness and others but it should be a black box about 7" x 4" x 1.5" roughly.

It will require dealer programming unless you have a Tech II, but like I said, don't just throw one at the car unless the shop can verify it as a problem.
